How much tea per cup
The dose is 2 g of leaf per 100 ml of water, and the temperature sits between 50 and 98 °C depending on the type. The brewing table below lists the exact temperature, dose and steeping time for each tea, followed by the ordered routine from rinsing the vessel to pouring out completely.
01
Weigh 2 g of leaf per 100 ml of water, or use one 5 ml teaspoon per 150 ml. The dose stays constant whether the steep runs 30 seconds or 6 minutes.
02
Pick the band for your tea from the brewing table: 90–98 °C for 3–5 minutes for black, 61–87 °C for 30 seconds to 3 minutes for green. Rinse the vessel with water at least 90 °C first so the temperature holds.
03
Pour the liquor out completely at the end of the steep, then re-steep the same leaf if desired. Keep unused tea at room temperature in an air-tight container, with desiccant, vacuum sealing or refrigeration to extend storage life.
A cold vessel lowers the steep temperature — rinse it with water at least 90 °C before brewing.
Use 2 g of tea per 100 ml of water, or one 5 ml teaspoon per 150 ml.
The dose is the same for black and green tea: 2 g of dry leaf for every 100 ml of water. Measured by volume, one teaspoon holds about 5 ml of leaf, which suits 150 ml of water. Weighing removes the guesswork that a heaped spoon introduces, and the ratio stays constant across brewing sessions.
Scaling up follows the same arithmetic: 300 ml of water takes 6 g of leaf, 500 ml takes 10 g. The dose does not change with steeping time — a longer steep draws more out of the same 2 g rather than calling for a heavier hand.
